Behind the Brand: Meet the Dogs Behind Marcy's Pet Kitchen

Behind the Brand: Meet the Dogs Behind Marcy's Pet Kitchen

My journey began with two beloved dogs, Munson and Max, who were loyal companions and integral members of the family. As they aged and faced serious health challenges, including aggressive cancers, I knew there had to be a better way to reward them with truly healthy and wholesome treats, and none of the junk!

Munson & Max: The Heart of the Beginning

Munson and Max weren't just dogs. They were soulmates in fur! Loyal, loving, and fiercely brave. As they grew older, both faced aggressive cancers that rocked our world. I wanted nothing more than to comfort them, nourish them, and make them feel special in their final seasons.

However, as I searched for wholesome rewards, I realized how few truly healthy treats were available. Most were filled with junk, including preservatives, cheap fillers, and mystery ingredients I couldn't even pronounce. That heartbreak lit the spark. I knew there had to be a better way.

And for them, I started creating one.

Barkley: The Game-Changer

Years later, Barkley, my beautiful, silver-coated Labrador with a heart of gold and a nose that never quit, entered my life. He brought love, joy and energy into my – and my family's – life, but also a new challenge: severe and chronic food allergies.

I searched endlessly for the right treats, but even the so-called "natural" options were full of preservatives, fillers, and hidden allergens that caused flare-ups. Finding a dog treat he could safely enjoy was like hunting for a needle in a haystack. I refused to settle. I knew better.

So, I took matters into my own hands, rolled up my sleeves and started making his treats myself. I began crafting treats from:

  • Real, human-grade, nutrient-dense ingredients.
  • Free from top allergens.
  • Low on glycemic index (or GI), and
  • Rich in gut-friendly, functional nutrients that support immunity, digestion, and overall vitality.

Every batch was made with intention, because I understood precisely what Barkley needed to thrive.

💡 Marcy's Tip

If your dog is showing signs of allergies or digestive upset, check the treat bag first. Look for single proteins, clean ingredients, and always avoid artificial anything. Your dog's belly (and behavior) will thank you!

It was during that process that I realized I wasn't alone. Confusing labels mislead many pet parents as they struggle to find treats they can trust for their beloved pets. I had the knowledge, the recipes, and the passion to make a difference, and that's how Marcy's Pet Kitchen® was born.

What Barkley Taught Me

  • Labels don't always tell the truth; even on "premium" products!
  • Common allergens for canines such as chicken, dairy, corn, wheat and soy are hiding everywhere!
  • Functional nutrition isn't just for people; dogs need it too.

Barkley needed more than a treat. He needed support for his digestion, immunity, and inflammation. So, I developed recipes with real, low-glycemic ingredients that could do more than satisfy a craving; they could help him thrive!

What began as a passion project for friends, family, and neighbors quickly grew. Today, I remain committed to creating all-natural, allergy-friendly, diabetic-friendly, and sensitive stomach-friendly treats for all dogs in the underserved wellness space. It fills me with pride to know that MPK is reshaping the way we reward our dogs with clean, honest, feel-good treats.

The Mission Became Clear

As word spread, more and more pet parents came forward with stories that echoed my own: sick dogs, chronic allergies, picky eaters, confusing labels, and an overwhelming desire to do better for their beloved furry companions.

That's how Marcy's Pet Kitchen® grew from a passion project into a promise. To make treats that are truly clean, allergy-friendly, and full of ingredients you can trust.

Because dogs like Munson, Max, and Barkley deserve nothing less, and neither do yours!

Now, our treats are trusted by pet parents, retailers, and dog-friendly hotels that care deeply about what goes into their dogs' bodies. Every bag is a tribute to Munson, Max, and Barkley and a reflection of my promise to treat all dogs like family.

Today, Their Legacy Lives On

Every time we blend, bake, and bag a batch, we think of Munson, Max and Barkley. Their pawprints are on every recipe, every label and every decision we make.

Our dog treats are:

  • Free from common allergens like chicken, wheat, corn, and soy.
  • Low-glycemic and ideal for diabetic and sensitive-stomach pups.
  • Crafted with functional ingredients that support wellness from the inside out.

From small dogs with food sensitivities to aging giants with special needs, our treats are built for them and inspired by our own.

The Final Bark: We're Not Just a Treat Company!

We're a tribute to the dogs who made us better. To the dogs who need something better. And to every pet parent who believes, just like we do, that when you know better, you feed better!

Marcy Lambert-Pellegrino is the founder of Marcy's Pet Kitchen®, a small-batch dog treat company built on one belief: your dog deserves to eat well. After commercial treats caused recurring health issues in her own dogs, Marcy developed her own recipes using human-grade, allergen-friendly ingredients — including dandelion root as a natural prebiotic, one of the first companies to do so. MPK has been featured in Pets Plus Magazine and the Wellness Master Club.
